A Vision for Global Health: The “White Box” Theory
After India gained independence from Britain, the nation adopted a socialist economic system. While this approach aimed to provide for all, it also led to unintended consequences — India now has the largest population of people living in poverty of any nation.
During a presentation I gave at the United Nations on economic healthcare for large populations, I was approached by a bishop from the Indian Catholic Church (not associated with the Vatican). He had published a tract explaining that India simply does not have the resources to provide adequate healthcare for the millions living in poverty. The government is responsible for all citizens’ health care in India.
This conversation sparked a critical idea: could nutrition itself deliver measurable health benefits at a large scale, even for impoverished communities? This was implicated by the United Nations’ request for a lecture at its sponsored conference by the Office for Food and Agriculture in Rome, Italy.
The “White Box” Theory
The concept is simple yet powerful — by adding NEW EDEN to the diet, individuals could receive a series of ongoing health benefits, like a “White Box” of protection. This was more than just a theory. Individuals with multiple health challenges had serial improvements for all their deviations from normal health. There seemed to be an inner intelligence because the progression of improvements was stepwise, with the most life-threatening conditions responding in sequence.
A detailed clinical protocol was designed to test the “White Box” effect in Kerala, India. The study’s goal was to provide proof that affordable, broad-based nutritional support could transform public health. If successful, the plan was to expand distribution across all states of India, if the clinical test in Kerala validated the progressive serial improvements or “White Box “effect.
Unfortunately, the necessary funding to carry out this large-scale project was never secured.
Why This Matters
The story reminds us that while healthcare systems often struggle to meet the needs of growing populations, nutrition remains the first and most essential building block of health. NEW EDEN represents not just a product, but a vision for how simple, effective supplementation could ease the burden of disease for millions worldwide.
Is There Objective EVIDENCE That the “White Box” Effect is a Real Entity?
Starting in 2000, the National Geographic Society issued five grants to Dan Buettner to look globally for populations that have longevity in good health. Multiple sites have been found that have this characteristic and have been termed “Blue Zones”. All such places have primarily a plant-based diet, personal gardens, and, by the nature of no electricity or motors, physical exercise is inherent with significant daily activity. A purpose in life is very prominent. These are the features of dietary supplementation with plant ingredients that are present in the “White Box” phenomenon. The extensive shift towards a plant-based diet is in harmony with the yet-to-be-instituted investigation planned for Kerala, India. Success is believed to be assured when conducted.
